Randall Duckett, A3 Principal
Duckett is one of the most experienced education communications program developers and project managers in the nation. At Laine Communications as Senior Vice-President until June of this year, he crafted comprehensive communications campaigns for state CTE, STW, Career Cluster and Pathway, and workforce development systems for South Carolina, Illinois, Alabama, Texas, Kansas, Tennessee, Nebraska, Georgia, Louisiana, and for Project Lead The Way, Inc. In addition, he produced career cluster guides for the states of South Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Indiana, and North Carolina. For Education Edge, Tennessee’s School-to-Career System, he led the creation of a complete package of communications tools for local partnerships, a package that has drawn national attention for its excellence. He served as project manager for South Carolina’s Carolina Careers and Illinois’ Education to Careers campaigns.
Working with Whittle Communications through the ’80s and ’90s, Duckett designed and launched a wide range of targeted publications, TV productions, and alternative media projects. His experience includes four years as one of the first members of the Edison Project. In the mid-’90s, Duckett founded and served as president of Media Development Group. MDG completed a variety of local and national projects including editing for Learn and Live, a sourcebook of educational best practices published by the George Lucas Education Foundation as a companion to the video of the same name.
Steven Friedlander, A3 Principal
Friedlander has spent more than 25 years as a creative professional for a variety of companies throughout the United States. He provides conceptual, strategic, and executional direction to clients for their editorial, marketing, and communications initiatives. Friedlander has been an editor at Whittle Communications, where he worked on a variety of education-related properties, including Channel One and The Edison Project.
As director of editorial services for Whittle’s Channel One Network, the news-and-information program sent to more than 12,000 middle and high schools via satellite, Friedlander was responsible for overseeing all network print properties. These publications provided educators with intelligent and responsible previews and reviews of the topics covered on the network.
As a member of the Edison Project, Chris Whittle’s powerful and ambitious school design, now implemented in partnerships with communities across the country, Friedlander spent 18 months writing and editing innovative educational blueprints and overseeing the production of booklets, brochures, newsletters, and a myriad of communications and public affairs activities.
At Laine Communications as Executive Vice-President/Creative Director until May of this year, Friedlander managed all creative staff members and provided primary conceptual and creative direction for all products and communications plans. He monitored the development of each creative project to ensure the integrity of the overall vision and concept. He worked closely with both staff and clients to develop plans and products that directly further the clients’ goals.
Friedlander also has extensive magazine development and editing experience. He developed and produced On the Road with Hampton, a specially designed custom magazine for Hampton Inns. He has also been a staff editor for and contributed to a variety of national magazines, including Avenue, Health, McCall’s, Video Business, and Vis a Vis.
